Description
Bowl, slip-painted, so-called black-on-white ware. Buff earthenware with radiating sides, decorated with floriated Kufic inscription, running around the cavetto n two lines, while at the base there is the word Ahmad. Iran, Nishapur, 10th century. Ht. 10cm; Top diam. 23cm; Base diam. 8cm. Comparative material: There are two similarly decorated bowls in the Tareq Rajab Museum in Kuwait, cf. G. Fehérvári, 2000, cat.nos. 47, 49, p.54. Another floriated Kufic bowl is in the Al-Sabah Collection in Kuwait, cf. O. Watson, 2004, cat.no.GA.16, inv.no.LNS1093C, p.217. Prof. Geza Fehervari Prof. Geoffrey King - (ADC.146)
