Dated 18th century. Mounted in an 18 Karat Gold
Ring
During the Renaissance a few very wealthy
merchants, bankers and princes commissioned
some of the finest painters and artisans of the
day to create erotic works of art. These came in
many forms; from large-scale oil paintings to
privately published books, often with
recognizable mythological subjects as the main
'actors'. A ring such as this handsome example
would have been commissioned to conform to a
patron's specific arrangement and subject
matter. The beautifully transparent stone is
perfectly suited to the playful and sexy scene; as
if the couple is outdoors on a sunny day,
enjoying each other freely as in the mythical
days of nymphs and satyrs.
