The presence of the god of love offering gifts to a young woman suggests that this vessel was part of a bride's dowry. It is perhaps used to mix wine at a wedding feast during the flower of the classical age. Such a vase seems to glow with life, with the myriad emotions and dreams that have touched men and women since time began. Though the people depicted on it are mere painted images, we cannot help but feel that they were once real citizens of the vanished world of antiquity, people not so very unlike ourselves. - (PF.0037)
